What We Learned from 50 Podcast Episodes: Behind the Scenes with Transforming Healthcare Coaching
Let’s celebrate a milestone! What we learned from 50 podcast episodes has been transformative for both creators and listeners alike. Not every podcast makes it to 50 episodes, but Transforming Healthcare Coaching has reached this achievement and is still going strong. Ever wonder what happens behind the scenes of a podcast dedicated to healthcare professionals’ wellbeing? Here’s your exclusive look at what we learned from creating these 50 podcast episodes.
What We Learned: The Journey from Idea to Impact
When Lillian Liang Emlet and Klaus Grim, a physician associate, educator, and podcast director, started this venture, they had no idea how much they would learn along the way. What began as LinkedIn live audio events has evolved into a platform that connects healthcare professionals seeking authentic conversations about wellbeing.
What We Learned Through Creating 50 Podcast Episodes
“It’s the growth. It’s learning something different than medicine,” shares Klaus about his favorite part of podcast production. “We’ve been building and learning again, which is what is the foundation of most medical practices and specialties are – continuing education.”
For Lillian, the creative process has been the most rewarding aspect: “The best thing has been really just the production process of learning all of the creative aspects and also getting to think of an idea and play around with things.”
Authentic Conversations Only
Unlike many podcasts that rely heavily on scripts, Transforming Healthcare Coaching embraces authentic dialogue:
“These are true authentic conversations that we have with all of our guests,” explains Lillian. “We do a little bit of powwow ahead of time, but we want things to be fresh and natural and authentic.”
Klaus adds, “In the beginning, I think we did try and script out things, and we were like, this isn’t working. This isn’t the way we work with our clients. This is not how we talk in real life.”
Redefining Wellbeing for Healthcare Professionals
One of the biggest lessons we learned from 50 podcast episodes? Fighting the negative associations many healthcare workers have with terms like “wellbeing” and “resilience.”
“Many who are listening can get triggered sometimes with the word wellbeing and wellness,” Klaus points out. “Wellbeing doesn’t have to be this boring, annoying, cliche topic that has previously been promoted in the world, but it can actually be something that you can really do in your own life.”
Community at the Core
What started as content creation has revealed something deeper: the hunger for community among healthcare professionals.
“Community is such a huge thing,” Klaus emphasizes. “It’s hard because of social media and whatnot… in healthcare you’re just looking for people who just get it.”
This realization led to the creation of their MedThrive community – a space for healthcare professionals who want connection beyond their clinical roles.
What We Learned: Advice for Your Creative Dreams
For healthcare professionals with creative aspirations of their own, Lillian and Klaus offer this wisdom:
- Follow your intuition: “I had some kind of drive and motivation towards something,” says Klaus about his journey into coaching. “You don’t need to have the 10-year plan ahead of you.”
- Take micro steps: Lillian advises, “Just take the next first micro step because then you’ll be able to figure out the next thing.”
- Embrace pivoting: “Being able to shift and pivot… being okay that you’ve tried that one step, it didn’t work, now onto the next step,” Klaus recommends.
- Find community: Don’t go it alone. As Lillian discovered, “It’s better together than anything else.”
What We Learned About the Future: What’s Next for the Podcast?
Looking ahead, the team hopes to create a home where healthcare professionals can come when they’re:
- Struggling with work-life balance
- Facing burnout
- Seeking leadership opportunities
- Contemplating career changes
- Looking for authentic connection
“We see you as more than just a healthcare professional,” Klaus emphasizes. “We see you as so much more than just your title, that you are a human being.”
